If You Do Come Back

If you do come back,
Use love
To hold me here;
To hold me down
On this cold table
Like the doctor used to.
Cover me in kisses
After changing the white
Paper
For sterility purposes.

But check me with a
Tongue depressor first,
Because I’m sick with this.
Overgrown
Like a case of mold in the cave of my
Throat

Is that quiet ache
That won’t get swallowed away.

My clothes all folded neatly at the door,
Shoes pointing.
Maybe you’re in your office, waiting
Waiting to change the paper
Before I tie my gown, and
After you cover me in kisses.

I can’t believe no one has ever
Shut me up like this.
My mind a rolling void,
Except for one thought;

It’s
If you do come back,
Use love
To hold me here.
