How does one even begin to admit they were had, took, bamboozled… I’m not going to go as far as to say this was all a complete mistake, but I will tell you a few things that make me feel like my money and my son’s energy could have been spared these past 12 days.

Red Flags Everywhere!

When Dr. K first contacted me, it was right after I had sent out an email to 4 other hospitals begging for help with my very sick very suicidal son.  The POTs treatment Center of Dallas contacted me within a few hours and Dr. K got on the phone herself.  She encouraged me to get him to Dallas as soon as possible and she could help me. She told me she could not cure him, but that she was in the business of “giving mothers their children back”… and I was hooked.

I immediately set up a GoFundMe to start raising money for the hefty $7000 admission fee.  Red Flag #1: The Center doesn’t take insurance.  This really didn’t raise much of a red flag for me since my son is on state Medicaid. I had become used to fighting with Medicaid for new meds or paying for new services, so this seemed like just one more thing the government wouldn’t cover.

But then the Ronald McDonald house wouldn’t allow us either? Stating we were not a high priority and they didn’t usually house patients for the POTs Center. Wait, What?

So I had to find a place to live for 2 weeks.

So $7000 turned into $9000… then I rented a car because there wasn’t enough room for a sick teenager, a wheelchair, a walker, and 3 suitcases.
